Despite the poor weather, the couple went on a walkabout to greet the public before heading back to the Grand Ducal Palace, where they appeared on the balcony.
Princess Alexandra was joined by her parents and all her siblings, and their wives. In the evening, a reception was held in the Grand Ducal Palace.
The couple will marry in a religious ceremony on 29 April at Saint Trophyme Church in Var, France.
