Prince Carl Philip of Sweden has presented the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
At a ceremony in the Concert Hall in Stockholm, he presented the award to French author Marion Brunet.
>The jury said, “Marion Brunet’s books are set in a fiercely pulsating present, with climate crisis and social vulnerability as recurring themes. In crystal-clear and shimmering prose, young people are depicted in revolt against a corrupt society. The darkness and violence of existence are explored in Brunet’s current stories, whose connection to fairy tales and myths makes them timeless. And counterforces are found in friendship, solidarity and the beauty of nature.”
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the government of Sweden and is awarded to a person or organisation that contributes to the importance of literature for children worldwide. The prize money is five million Swedish kronor.
The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Culture, Parisa Liljestrand.
