The Royal Court has released a new photograph and message from Queen Mette-Marit to mark a special opening.

In her first act as Queen of Norway, Mette-Marit has released a message to mark the reopening of a meaningful space in Oslo.

“Threads in Time” at the Queen Sonja Art Stable (Dronning Sonja KunstStall) reopens on 16 October, after it was closed following the death of King Harald and the subsequent period of court mourning. The exhibition presents tapestries from the Royal Collections, created between 1899 and 1955, and demonstrates how such works can serve as both bearers of history and cultural treasures.

Queen Mette-Marit has said that “time passes more slowly at the loom” and the “loom also gives something back: time and space. A sanctuary.”

“When I sit down in front of the loom, a lot comes to rest. Time passes more slowly at the loom and it is impossible to hurry. It takes time to weave, but the loom also gives something back: Time and space. A sanctuary.

The loom also represents our shared time – the history of the nation. We have been weaving for thousands of years in this country and have used the loom both as a practical object and in art.

The exhibition presents tapestries from the Royal Collections created in the period 1899-1955, and shows how tapestries have been carriers of history and cultural treasures.” — Queen Mette-Marit, Translated Text

This is the Queen’s first act following her husband’s accession and the end of court mourning. As the Royal Court has previously said, Queen Mette-Marit is still in rehabilitation after her lung transplant. Her Majesty is not expected to have any official duties scheduled until next summer. However, she may be present at certain significant occasions.
