Empress Masako and Emperor Naruhito have stayed at the Oude Loo Castle before during then-Crown Princess Masako’s recovery in the early 2000s.
There is an official photo moment for the media at the Loo Palace on Monday.
The state visit is intended to be a “confirmation of the close and historic relationship between Japan and the Netherlands.” The two countries have had relations for 426 years, and Japan is the Netherlands’ fourth-largest trading partner in Asia.
After the state visit to the Netherlands, the Imperial couple will travel on to Belgium.
