King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden attended a memorial service in Fagersta following an attack at a school.
The King and Queen attended the service at Västanfors Church on Sunday, 30 August, alongside the Governor of Västmanland County.
Bishop Mikael Mogren led the service that was aired live on Sverige Television and Sveriges Radio P1.
Following the ceremony, the King and Queen travelled to the memorial site by Brinell School, where the attack took place. Their Majesties laid flowers and lit candles in memory of those injured and killed.
King Carl Gustaf released a statement after the August attack, expressing support for all those affected.
He said, “It is with dismay and sadness that we have received the news that Sweden has once again been hit by a school attack. My thoughts go out to those most directly affected, their families and loved ones.
“I also want to express my understanding of the concern this causes for students, school staff, parents in Fagersta and our entire community.”
On Friday 21 August, an 18-year-old student entered Brinell School with a sword, injuring three and killing a 17-year-old girl. Of the three injured, two boys, ages 12 and 17, suffered severe wounds.
The perpetrator was arrested, and police believe he acted alone.
