King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain have hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Madrid.
The King welcomed Zelenskyy at the Pavilion of the Adolfo Súarez Madrid-Barajas Airport before heading into the capital.
The President is in Spain on an official visit and was the guest of Their Majesties at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
The King and Queen hosted the President for lunch with King Felipe remarking that “for more than two years the entire world has witnessed the heroism, dedication, bravery and resistance of the people of Ukraine, its government, and its Armed Forces. Also, unfortunately, due to the violation of the most essential norms and principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, which undermines the foundations of international peace and security, Spain cannot but reiterate its condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the invasion of great scale that your country suffers.”
King Felipe also held a private meeting with President Zelenskyy with delegations from both countries.
President Zelenskyy said during the meeting: “I am grateful to Spain and to all of you for keeping your hearts open. You help, you strengthen our Ukrainian forces, which are holding the front against Russian aggression. And through your concern, you are saving thousands of lives.”
The Ukrainian President has invited the King and Queen to visit Ukraine when they can.
