The Oslo State Attorney’s Office has presented all the indictments against Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby.
Marius will be prosecuted for 23 counts. This includes four rapes of four different women and abuse in a close relationship concerning his former partner, Nora Haukland. He will also be charged with making death threats, assaulting a public official and violating the Road Traffic Act.
In total, he was prosecuted for one case of rape with intercourse, two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexually offensive behaviour, one case of abuse in close relationships, two cases of bodily harm, one case of malicious damage, one case of threats, five violations of restraining order, one case of molestation by a police officer and five road traffic offences.
State Attorney Sturla Henriksbø said, “This case is very serious. Rape and violence in close relationships are very serious acts that can leave lasting traces and destroy lives.” He added, “The fact that Marius Borg Høiby is part of the royal family should, of course, not mean that he is treated more leniently or strictly than if similar acts were committed by others.”
According to State Attorney Sturla Henriksbø, the maximum penalty will be ten years in prison.
The trial is estimated to begin in the middle of January and will take around six weeks.
In June, his defence attorney said, “He does not plead guilty to the essentials. To the extent that one must highlight something, it is these rape allegations, which he strongly denies. These are three cases of so-called sleeping rape. It is completely rejected.”
