Grand Duke Henri bids farewell to the army

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg bid farewell to the army with a special visit.

The Grand Duke visited the Diekirch barracks yesterday for a moving farewell visit three weeks before his official abdication. As Grand Duke, he is the Commander of the Army.

Grand Duke Henri received a tribute as the Army Commander from Minister Yuriko Backes and Chief of Staff General Steve Thull. 

The Grand Duke conducted a final review of the troops during this military ceremony.

The official abdication ceremony will take place on 3 October 2025. Henri’s son, Guillaume, will become the new Grand Duke and Commander of the Army.
