Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg has thanked the public for their support following his ascension to the Luxembourgish throne.

Thanking everyone who turned out to celebrate him, he shared how touched he was at the warmth the people showed him.

“I am deeply touched by the many personal gestures and gifts,” he said.

The Grand Duke felt it was important that the entire country celebrate the historic moment and said that the celebrations are not just about him.

He said: “Tonight, we’re not celebrating just one person, but our identity, our diversity, our history, and our future. We’re celebrating Luxembourg.”

Festivities conclude on 5 October. A Te Deum will take place to mark his new reign.

Guillaume became the Grand Duke of Luxembourg following his father, Henri’s, abdication on 3 October.
