Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is heading the Swedish Cancer Society’s Pink Ribbon campaign.
The Swedish Cancer Society’s Pink Ribbon campaign begins today, 1 October, and for the 18th year in a row, the Crown Princess is the campaign’s patron. The campaign will run throughout the month of October.
The campaign aims to raise money for cancer research, spread knowledge and influence decision-makers.
Every year, around 8,500 women in Sweden develop breast cancer. Thanks to the research, nearly 9 out of 10 women survive.

This year’s pink ribbon is designed by illustrator and artist Owe Gustafson and features the pink elephant from “Five ants are more than four elephants.”
Owe Gustafson said, “I had just been diagnosed with cancer, for the second time in my life, when I was asked. And my wife had breast cancer not too long ago. Today, she is cancer-free, thanks to research. Of course, I want to contribute what I can!”
Ulrika Årehed Kågström, Secretary General of the Swedish Cancer Society, said, “We are incredibly proud of HRH Crown Princess Victoria’s long-term commitment to the Pink Ribbon campaign. When cancer strikes, we need research that saves lives, but also people who dare to talk about the difficult things and are there for each other. This year’s campaign highlights the importance of precisely this, and we are pleased that the Crown Princess is supporting the Pink Ribbon for the eighteenth year in a row.”
