Crown Prince Haakon visits Minnesota

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway visited the state of Minnesota in the United States and met with Governor Tim Walz.

Minnesota is one of the states in the United States with a large population of people of Norwegian ancestry. Crown Prince Haakon is visiting to mark the 200th anniversary of Norwegian emigration to the United States. 

He was welcomed by Governor Tim Walz at the Minnesota State Capitol. They discussed the strong ties between Norway and Minnesota. Governor Tim Walz was elected as governor in 2019, and he ran as Kamala Harris’ vice presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

They also discussed the long collaboration between the Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian Home Guard, which is the longest collaboration of its kind between the United States and any other country. Crown Prince Haakon travelled to meet General Shawn Manke of the Minnesota National Guard.

Crown Prince Haakon then went on to visit an ice hockey training for girls and boys organised by the organisation DinoMights. He met with Norwegian ice hockey player Mats Zuccarello, who plays for the Minnesota Wild.

Crown Prince Haakon also attended a business conference held at Norway House in Minneapolis. He opened the conference and Norway House’s new interactive centre, Saga Center.
