Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has attended a drill demonstration at the Royal Palace in Oslo.
The King’s Guard usually present their drill program to King Harald, but Crown Prince Haakon is representing him, and he is currently acting as regent.
The guards greeted Crown Prince Haakon with a resounding “Good Day, Crown Prince Regent!” before the drill display began on the palace square. Norwegian marches were mixed with music by Grieg in front of a large audience which had gathered around the Karl Johan statue.
The 3rd Guards Company, which is also known as the Music and Drill Troop, consists of guardsmen from His Majesty the King’s Guard. New recruits arrive every autumn, and they are trained throughout the year. This year, they have represented Norway in Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland with the drill program.
