Royals attend UN General Assembly – UNGA Day 3

Royals from around the world speak at the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, while some held high-level meetings on the margins. Find out more below.

Welcome back to another day of royal coverage on the UN General Assembly taking place this week in New York. Wednesday brought several meetings and a few addresses to the UNGA. We take a look at some of the engagements that took place yesterday.

• King Mswati III

King Mswati III of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) addressed the UNGA General Debate. This was not the first time the King has attended and spoken in New York; however, this year, His Majesty touched on the “urgent need to strengthen African-led peace processes.” King Mswati III spoke after meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

• Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah

Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah of Kuwait, on behalf of Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, is in New York this week. The Crown Prince met, among others, with Polish President Karol Nawrocki on Wednesday.

• Hereditary Prince Alois

Hereditary Prince Alois is attending the UNGA81 on behalf of the Principality of Liechtenstein. On the sidelines of the General Assembly, the Hereditary Prince met, among others, with Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir.

• Grand Duke Guillaume V

Grand Duke Guillaume V of Luxembourg is attending his inaugural UNGA as sovereign of the Grand Duchy. Yesterday, the Grand Duke held several meetings on the margins of the General Assembly, including with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah.

Grand Duke Guillaume also met with Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa. The two spoke about the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Luxembourg and Mongolia. Mongolia notes that planning is underway to implement forestry projects and programs with USD 100 million in financing.

• King Letsie III

King Letsie III of Lesotho is attending the UNGA81 this week as Lesotho’s head of state. His Majesty undertook several engagements on Wednesday, including a meeting with UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. The King is expected to address the UN in the coming days.
