Buckingham Palace has announced that the Duchess of Kent died yesterday at the age of 92.
The royal family will go into mourning from now until and including the day of the funeral. Members of the royal family and members of the royal household will wear appropriate clothing for this period. Those wearing livery, those in the Royal Mews, and troops on public duty will wear black armbands.
An online book of condolences will be made available in the coming days.
It is possible that some royal engagements will be rescheduled if they do not fit in the period of mourning.
As the Duchess of Kent was a practising Catholic, it is expected that the funeral will be according to Catholic rites. Any further details about the funeral will be released in due course.
