King Frederik X of Denmark and the Duchess of Edinburgh teamed up at a conference.
King Frederik opened the Save the Children conference ‘Keeping our Children and Families Safe in the AI Era’ in the Parliament Hall at Christiansborg Palace. King Frederik was received by Save the Children’s Secretary General, Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen, and the chairman of Save the Children’s Executive Board, Niels Lund.
The King then welcomed the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, and the Duchess of Edinburgh. The Duchess of Edinburgh is the royal patron of the English children’s charity, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
The conference was about how artificial intelligence and social media affect the well-being, safety and mental health of children. There were panel debates and several presentations.
King Fredik has been the royal patron of Save the Children since 2002, and he gave the opening speech at the conference.
He said, “With AI-generated images and videos, the line between what is real and what is not is becoming increasingly blurred. Children – and the rest of us, for that matter – are, in effect, being deliberately deceived. And when convincing AI companions offer friendship, advice, and emotional support, it can be tempting to turn to them as trusted confidants. But they are not human. They have no lived experience, no genuine emotions, no moral judgment, and no true empathy. And if we begin to mistake machines for people, we risk being left in the dark.”
