Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are set to embark on a royal visit to Botswana, the first since 2022.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the ever-stalwart couple, are once again preparing to fly the flag abroad for a new joint overseas visit. From Monday 5th to Thursday 8th October, Richard and Birgitte will visit the Republic of Botswana.
The visit comes as the United Kingdom and Botswana celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the nation’s independence. Back in 1966, the Duke’s aunt, Princess Marina, represented Queen Elizabeth II at the independence ceremony. The Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone was named after her.
Next month, the royal visit by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will celebrate the modern partnership between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Botswana, based on shared values, support for economic growth, and people-to-people ties connecting both countries.
During the visit, which will be the couple’s first to Botswana, the Duke and Duchess will meet with President Advocate Duma Boko. The programme will also highlight several areas of collaboration between Botswana and the United Kingdom.
Most recently, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited Botswana in 2022.
