King of Bhutan’s half-brother marries

The King of Bhutan’s younger half-brother married today.

The wedding between Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and Ugen Choden Namgyel took place at Dechencholing Palace in Thimphu. They received the sacred blessings of the Prince’s father, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck and His Holiness the Je Khenpo. Ugen Choden Namgyel is the daughter of Mr. Singye Namgyel and Mrs. Tshering Lhamo.

Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck is the son of King Jigme Singye Wangchuck and Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. He is a half-brother of the current King of Bhutan, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and was his heir presumptive until the birth of his children. Their father married four sisters and has a total of ten children.

Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck is a graduate of St Peter’s College, University of Oxford, where he earned his degree, and holds an Executive MBA from INSEAD. He has served as President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee since 2009, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia, and as a Member of the International Olympic Committee.
