US President Donald Trump has praised Japan’s Emperor Naruhito in Tokyo.

After meeting with the Emperor for 30 minutes inside the Imperial Palace, the US leader was heard calling Emperor Naruhito “a great man, a great man,” while pointing to the Japanese monarch.

The pair had earlier exchanged warm greetings outside the Imperial Palace in front of the media. The White House later shared a photo of the President and Emperor chatting over a small table with flowers inside the palace.

President Trump last met Emperor Naruhito during his first term in office in 2019. At the time, Naruhito had just ascended the throne upon the abdication of his father, Emperor Akihito.

The US President is on a multi-day trip to Asia that will see him visit Malaysia, Japan and South Korea.
