Queen Suthida is in Japan attending the IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s Asia Championships, as the Bureau of the Royal Household announces a major development in the Queen’s trip.

Queen Suthida of Thailand is in Japan from 14-22 October on a special visit. In October 2024, the Queen became the International Ice Hockey Federation’s first Women’s Global Ambassador after witnessing the “passion Her Majesty brings” to the sport.

The Queen has been invited to attend the 2027 women’s Asia championships by the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation, Franz Reindl.

Her Majesty arrived in Japan on Wednesday, garnering much attention as she piloted herself from Thailand to Hokkaido.

On Saturday, Queen Suthida attended the Japan vs South Korea match of the IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s Asia Championship at the Tsukisamu Gymnasium in Sapporo. After the match, the Queen put on her skates and headed onto the rink to meet with the top-performing players from both the Japanese and South Korean national teams, presenting them with the “Best Player Awards.”

In the evening, the Bureau of the Royal Household made a major development in the Queen’s itinerary. Queen Suthida will travel to Tokyo this week to meet with Emperor Naruhito.

The Bureau notes that the Emperor will receive the Queen on Tuesday, 20 October, at the Imperial Residence. This will be the Queen’s and the Emperor’s first meeting. Empress Masako will almost certainly join the meeting.

The Royal News Organisation will keep you updated throughout the Queen’s trip in Japan.
