Princess Anne and Sir Tim meet Thai King and Queen in Bangkok

Princess Anne and Sir Tim were received by King Rama X and Queen Suthida in Bangkok today.

The Princess Royal and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence are now in Thailand following their official visit to South Korea. The couple held several engagements this morning, reflecting the close ties between the two countries and their royal families.

The couple arrived at the Grand Palace in a motorcade at the behest of King Rama X following an audience with the Thai Prime Minister. The Princess and Sir Tim were being escorted in one of the Thai Royal Family’s vehicles for prominent family members.

Once inside, Princess Anne and Sir Tim proceeded to the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall where the ‘Royal Remains’ of the late Queen Sirikit have been lying in state since the late Queen Mother’s passing in October 2025. The Princess offered a large floral wreath before the entourage bowed in respect. The couple then visited the Piman Rattaya Throne Hall where Princess Bajrakitiyabha has been resting since her death last month. The ‘double mourning’ period is one of the first times in modern history such an overlap has occurred.

The Princess Royal and Sir Tim also signed the book of condolence during their time.

The royal couple then proceeded to Dusit Palace for the day’s focus: a meeting with the King and Queen. Their Majesties King Rama X and Queen Suthida greeted the couple as they arrived at the Amphon Sathan Residential Hall before the party proceeded inside for an audience.

After the audience, the party then bid farewell on the steps of Amphon Sathan Residential Hall. The Princess Royal has visited Thailand on three previous occasions: in 1979 and 1987, and in 1972, when she accompanied her parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
