Emperor Naruhito of Japan greeted the public for his 64th birthday from the balcony at the Imperial Palace.
He was joined by his wife, Empress Masako, their daughter Princess Aiko, Crown Prince Fumihito and his wife, Crown Princess Kiko, and their second daughter, Princess Kako.
He spoke to the public, where he once again addressed his condolences for the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake. This is the first time since the pandemic that there were no limitations in place. As a result, many came to see the Emperor.
He also said, “I am truly grateful to all of you for coming here on my birthday and celebrating with me despite the bitter cold and rain.[…] I’m sure many of you have struggled with the heavy snow and severe cold this winter. I pray that each and every one of you will have a peaceful spring. I wish you all good health and happiness.”
