King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has welcomed Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
The King was joined by Queen Silvia as they welcomed President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and his wife, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam, at the King’s Court Stables. They then travelled to the Royal Palace. The King and the President travelled in the Seven Glass Carriage, while the Queen and the President’s wife followed in the Court’s Daimler.
After the procession to the royal palace, an official welcoming ceremony took place in the palace courtyard. This began with the playing of the two national anthems. The King and the President then inspected a grenadier company from the Life Guards.

The presidential couple then greeted representatives from the Riksdag and government. Once inside the palace, the presidential couple greeted Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip in the Victoria Salon.
In Lovisa Ulrika’s dining room, the King and the President gave press statements.
King Carl XVI Gustaf said, “The relationship between Singapore and Sweden has continued to make remarkable progress over the past six decades. It reflects a longstanding partnership founded on mutual respect, shared interests, and close cooperation. The Queen and I highly value the strong bonds between our countries. We look forward to building on this friendship and exploring new opportunities together.”
The President then travelled to the Riksdag to meet with Speaker Andreas Norlén. Meanwhile, Queen Silvia and Mrs Tharman visited the National Museum, where they viewed the exhibition “Ceramics Across Borders.”

The two couples met again for lunch in Princess Sibylla’s apartment at the Royal Palace. Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Princess Madeleine, and Mr Christopher O’Neill also joined them.
After lunch, the President met with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, while Mrs Tharman and Queen Silvia met with State Councillor Parisa Liljestrand to visit Beckman’s Design School. The President then joined King Carl XVI Gustaf for a roundtable discussion at Ericsson Studio, along with Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard.
In the evening, a gala dinner was held at the Royal Palace.
