Queen Suthida arrived in Japan yesterday, attracting the world’s attention yet again by piloting the royal flight.

Queen Suthida is on a visit to Japan to attend the 2027 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s Asia Championship. The visit, which is scheduled for 14-22 October, is at the invitation of the President of the IIHF, in the Queen’s role as the IIHF’s first Women’s Global Ambassador.

The IIHF invited Her Majesty to be its first Ambassador for Women’s Ice Hockey in 2023, in recognition of the Queen’s support for and personal participation in ice hockey, which has contributed significantly to the sport – especially women’s ice hockey – in Thailand, Asia, and around the world.

In Sapporo, Her Majesty is expected to present medals and trophies to the competing athletes. Earlier this year, Her Majesty attended the sport’s medal matches at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

Queen Suthida solo piloted the royal aircraft to Japan, departing from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Military Airport and landing at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido. The Queen drew attention yet again as she then drove herself to her hotel in Sapporo.

Queen Suthida recently received worldwide acclaim as she became the first Queen in history to pilot a fighter jet.
