Police have shot a knife-wielding man in front of the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Police responded to the scene after reports of “an aggressive man with a weapon” around 6.30 p.m. last night. The man was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital. The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

The police say there is no danger to the public.

A witness told SVT, “We were standing outside the Grand Hotel and suddenly saw a lot of blue lights, both ambulances and police.”

Police spokesperson Susanna Rinaldo said, “I will not be able to explain the course of events in the media. It is an ongoing operation, and we will carry out a number of investigative measures.”

The royal court confirmed that no members of the royal family were inside the palace at the time of the incident.

Early this morning, police spokesman Anders Bryngelsson said, “It has not been possible to interview the person yet, and therefore the person has not been notified of suspicion. I cannot make any assessment of the damage situation but can only state that it has not been possible to interview him yet.”
