Queen Sirikit cremation ceremony on schedule

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over a meeting of the National Commission on the royal cremation of Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. 

All preparations are on schedule for the royal cremation ceremony taking place in December, which will finally see Queen Sirikit laid to rest over a year after she passed away in hospital. The Princess Royal chairs meetings of the National Commission on the Royal Cremation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, which arranges all aspects of the traditional five-day ceremonies.

This weekend, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the National Commission’s second meeting of 2026 at the Outer Santi Maitri Building of Government House. This meeting followed the first meeting of the year, held on 21 March. During the earlier meeting, the Princes Royal provided guidance and directives on arrangements for the royal cremation ceremony of the late Queen Sirikit, ensuring the proceedings would run smoothly.

Over the weekend, a summary report was presented regarding the progress of preparations for the royal cremation ceremony across several aspects, including the production of commemorative medals for the event.

On the occasion, the committee sought guidance and directives regarding arrangements for foreign dignitaries wishing to attend the Royal Cremation Ceremony. The Committee also sought guidance on organising an exhibition following the royal cremation ceremony; holding religious ceremonies and activities marking the anniversary of the Queen Mother’s passing; and designating the royal cremation ceremony day as a special government holiday.

Following the death of Queen Sirikit last October, King Vajiralongkorn issued a royal command for the Bureau of the Royal Household to arrange the royal funeral with the highest honours in strict accordance with royal traditions, and with the dignity to honour and commemorate the boundless benevolence of Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
