A dazzling Prince and Princess of Wales attended the 73rd Royal Film Performance at the Odeon Luxe, in aid of the Film & TV Charity, meeting a few old friends throughout the night.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were the night’s highlight at the 73rd Royal Film Performance at Leicester Square on Tuesday evening. A resplendent Catherine wore a floor-length royal purple Jenny Packham chiffon gown, earrings belonging to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and a beautiful amethyst-and-diamond necklace in the shape of a heart, once worn by the late Queen Mother. The Waleses truly shone in everyone’s eyes yesterday, in aid of the Film and TV Charity.

The air right before William and Catherine’s arrival was anticipatory as crowds awaited the Prince and Princess. The couple were greeted at London’s Odeon Luxe by legendary actor and friend Tom Cruise — with a kiss on the cheek from Catherine. According to The Times, Cruise reportedly said just before their arrival, “I just love them. They are lovely people, and I have great respect for them.” He later held the Princess’s hand down a flight of stairs, a somewhat customary gesture from the ever chivalrous Cruise. After meeting those awaiting their arrival, the couple headed backstage and met some old friends who were supporting the film — the Beckhams. Sir David Beckham attended with his two sons, Cruz and Romeo.
Hosted by Warner Bros. Pictures and the Film and TC Charity, the premiere of Digger is the 73rd Royal Film Performance™ delivered by the charity in its 100-year history. The first Royal Command Film Performance in aid of the charity took place at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square in 1946. It was attended by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, along with Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. The film shown was Powell and Pressburger’s Life and Death, starring David Niven.
According to Warner Bros., from 1946 to date, the Film and TV Charity has held 72 fundraising Royal Film Performance™ events. The last Royal Film Performance™ of Gladiator II, directed by Ridley Scott, took place in 2024 at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square and was attended by King Charles III. The Royal Film Performance™ is the flagship fundraiser for The Film and TV Charity. This organisation supports the tens of thousands of people working behind the scenes in the UK’s world-leading film and television industry.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prince William made a solo visit to ActOne in west London. The independent, community-led cinema in Acton was opened in 2021, after a group of over one hundred volunteers restored Acton’s Passmore Edwards community library, transforming it into a two-screen cinema, café and community space.
