King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands visited the Dutch Ministry of Defence on 4 September.
The King was briefed by the Commander of the Armed Forces, General Onno Eichelsheim, and his deputy commanders on worldwide operations during the Armed Forces Council.
His Majesty spoke to the military about ongoing geopolitical issues and how that affects their training and actions. He learned about the work of currently deployed Dutch troops, as well.
The goals published in the June Defence White Paper were also discussed. The Defence White Paper outlines goals for the Dutch military and future plans.
The Ministry of Defence said, “Defence is urgently building an armed force that can sustain the fight longer and respond to changes in the world.”
The Armed Forces Council is held every week and is the highest military decision-making and advisory body in the Netherlands.
As monarch, King Willem-Alexander regularly visits the military and is kept up to date by the Ministry of Defence.
