The funeral was held at the Parisian Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde, according to Bernadette Chirac’s wishes. She and Jacques Chirac were married in the nearby Sainte-Clotilde chapel in 1956. The funeral of their eldest daughter, Laurence, was also held there in 2016.

The Princess was present at the funeral alongside First Lady Brigitte Macron, former president Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla, and several other political figures and friends.

King Mohammed wrote a letter of condolence to Claude Chirac in which he stated, “The Kingdom of Morocco will cherish the memory of a personality of great distinction who faithfully embodied a rich heritage of human, family, and patriotic values. We pay tribute to the memory of a woman who, alongside President Jacques Chirac, a sincere friend of Morocco and its people, demonstrated constant esteem toward the Kingdom. We hold toward your late mother a particular personal affection, woven from precious shared memories. We share your grief and assure you of our full solidarity in these moments of remembrance and tribute.”
