King Abdullah II led the celebrations in Amman for Jordan’s 80th Independence Day alongside the Royal Family.

The King was joined by Queen Rania, Crown Prince Hussein, Princess Rajwa, Princess Salma and Prince Hashem.

Queen Rania shared a photo with her two granddaughters, Princess Iman and Amina, ahead of the celebrations. The young royals were wearing shirts that had an 8 and a 0 on their backs. Her Majesty wrote, “Celebrating 80 years of independence with the sweetest company: Iman and Amina wrapped in Jordan’s colours.”

Later, at the celebrations at Al Husseiniya Palace, the King addressed the nation, praising Jordan as a country of confidence and loyalty to its people.

“I speak to you from this land, a land that has never forsaken its people, on the anniversary of our nation’s independence—a moment in time that endures in our hearts; a pledge and a covenant that we defend with honour and integrity.

“Eighty years on, and the conviction holds strong in an honourable and resilient people, unfaltering in their principles,” he said.

He added later, “Jordan is self-assured. It is unwavering in its future trajectory, and clear in its choices, forged by challenges that have buoyed its spirit and emboldened its determination.”

King Abdullah also presented royal medals to several Jordanians for their achievements and contributions to Jordan. The Order of Al Istiqlal (Independence) of the First Degree was presented to the Jordanian football team. At the same time, the King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein Order for Distinction of the First Degree went to the Jordan Relief Campaign.

In total, 15 royal medals were handed out to deserving Jordanians.
