The Princess Royal opened the ‘The Queen Elizabeth II Garden’ in London’s Regent’s Park.

Marking what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday yesterday, the late Queen’s only daughter officially opened ‘The Queen Elizabeth II Garden’, which opens to the public today.

The new two‑acre space in The Regent’s Park has been created by The Royal Parks in collaboration with HTA Design as a tranquil, fully accessible place for reflection in the heart of London. The Garden commemorates the life and service of Queen Elizabeth II, featuring a wildlife‑supporting circular pond, a flower garden planted with species significant to Her late Majesty, as well as a viewing platform offering panoramic views across the Royal Park.

Princess Anne was welcomed by the Chair of The Royal Parks, Dr Linda Yeuh, before viewing the Garden with representatives from The Queen Elizabeth II Garden Project, who outlined its design features and introduced members of the gardening team.

At the Water Tower, Blacksmith and King’s Foundation Alumnus Ian Thackray explained the significance of the water feature, before the Princess was presented with a gilded metal flower crafted for the site. The Princess Royal, together with the Mayor of London and Heritage Minister, then joined representatives from The Royal Parks and The Queen Elizabeth II Garden Project at a reception in the new space. The Princess also unveiled a ceremonial plaque to mark the Garden’s official opening.

The Queen Elizabeth II Garden has been designed with climate‑resilient planting as well as a projected 184% net gain in biodiversity, which showcases sustainable horticulture.
