Alois, the Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein, has attended the Munich Security Conference.

He represented Liechtenstein alongside Prime Minister Brigitte Haas and Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni.

The conference focuses on transatlantic relations and was held under the motto “Under Destruction.”

The opening address was held by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who emphasised Europe’s self-reliance and capacity for reform. In his speech, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later focused on the historical and cultural commonalities between the US and Europe as a strong foundation for the transatlantic partnership.

The Liechtenstein delegation discussed further cooperation and integration with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Henna Virkunnen. They also met with the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, to discuss current developments in asylum and migration policy and police cooperation.

Prime Minister Brigitte Haaslater said, “Even though we leave Munich with a better feeling about transatlantic relations, we as Liechtenstein and as Europe are responsible for our own security. We can count on strong partnerships, but it is clear that we must and will also make our contribution to collective security. The current global situation leaves no doubt about that.”

Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni said, “A world order based on the sovereign equality of states and international law remains a core interest for Liechtenstein and is without alternative. In light of the rapid developments of recent months, we will have to advocate even more strongly than before for institutions such as the United Nations. This also includes an ambitious reform program in which Liechtenstein intends to play an active and shaping role.”
