Pope Leo was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath by King Charles during the latter’s state visit to the Vatican.

During the state visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla met Pope Leo at the Apostolic Palace.

The King made the Pope a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, which is traditionally given to foreign heads of state. He also made the Holy Father a “Papal Confrater of St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.”

For his part, Pope Leo made King Charles a Knight Grand Cross with Collar of the Vatican Order of Pope Pius IX. Queen Camilla was granted the honour of Dame Grand Cross of the Order of Pope Pius IX.

King Charles has also agreed to Pope Leo’s suggestion that he become a ‘Royal Confrater’ of the Abbey of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls. A special seat has been created for the King, which will remain in the Abbey as a perpetual mark of mutual respect between Pope Leo and King Charles as Heads of State.
