The Duke of Kent has attended the funeral of Field Marshal Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank at Westminster Cathedral.

Westminster Cathedral was also the place where the funeral of the Duchess of Kent took place in September.

The Duke of Kent attended the funeral in a private capacity, but a number of royals were represented by others. King Charles was represented by General Sir Roland Walker, while Queen Camilla was represented by Lieutenant General Sir James Bucknall.

Lord Guthrie was born on 17 November 1938 in Chelsea as the eldest son of Major Ronald Guthrie and Nina Llewelyn. He studied at Harrow and went on to Sandhurst to complete his military training. He married Catherine Worrall on 11 September 1971, and they had two sons together. Catherine died in 2022.

Lord Guthrie had an impressive military career and eventually served as Chief of the General Staff and Chief of the Defence Staff. He also acted as the Colonel Commandant of the Special Air Service and Colonel of The Life Guards. He was made a Gold Stick in Waiting to Queen Elizabeth in 1999 in recognition of his life of service. He held this role until 2019.

The Army in London X Account paid tribute to his “life of extraordinary service.”
