Denmark’s Count Nikolai is marking his 26th birthday today.
It is expected that he will spend the day privately with friends and family.
Earlier this year, his uncle, King Frederik, awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog. A knight’s shield will be created and hung in the Knight’s Chapel at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød.

The royal model was born with princely titles. Until January 2023, he was His Royal Highness Prince Nikolai of Denmark, Count of Monpezat, as the grandson of Queen Margrethe. However, Queen Margrethe revoked the princely titles and royal styles of her grandchildren through Prince Joachim.
Beginning on 1 January 2023, he has been known as His Excellency Count Nikolai of Monpezat.
Nikolai was born to Prince Joachim and his first wife, Countess Alexandra, on 28 August 1999. He has one younger brother, Prince Felix, and two younger half-siblings, Prince Henrik and Princess Athena, through his father’s second marriage to Princess Marie.
At present, Nikolai is sixth in the line of succession to the Danish throne.
