A health update has finally been issued regarding Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who has been in a coma for over two years.

King Rama X’s eldest child remains on life support in a Bangkok hospital, with her lungs and kidneys relying on medical assistance.

The Royal Household Bureau has said that the Princess, 46, is now being treated for a blood infection at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

Their statement said: “The doctors have reported that the Princess’s lungs and kidneys have been functioning with support from medical devices and medication.

“Since August 9, 2025, the medical team has found that she has a severe infection that has entered the bloodstream, requiring the administration of multiple antibiotics in combination, as well as medication to stimulate blood pressure to maintain it. The medical team continues to provide full treatment and monitor her symptoms closely.”

This was the first announcement on Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s health since 2023. She was initially hospitalised in December 2022 after collapsing from a heart condition while training with her dog. The royal has been in a coma and on life support ever since.

The announcement on the Princess’s health leads to questions in Thailand, as she has been seen by many as the unnamed heir to the Thai throne. The King has yet to announce his successor, but rumours have persisted for years since his accession that he would name his eldest daughter as the heir.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha iss the eldest child of King Rama X by his first wife, Princess Soamsawali. She was born on 7 December 1978 in Bangkok’s Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Dusit Palace.
