Queen Rania of Jordan visited the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Queen was welcomed to the foundation by the wife of South Africa’s Deputy President, Mrs Humile Mashatile. She then toured the Truth to Power exhibition, which focuses on the life and legacy of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu. During the tour, she met with the Foundation CEO, Ms Janet Jobson, and members of the Tutu family, including two of his daughters, Ms Theresa Thandeka Tutu, and Reverend Nontombi Naomi Tutu, as well as his grandchildren, Mr Xabiso Gxashe and Ms Nyaniso Lindiwe Burris, and his great-granddaughter Nkosinathi Morrison.

The exhibition was organised in partnership with the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and covers the milestones in the archbishop’s struggle against apartheid in South Africa and his work as chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation was founded in 2011 to nurture leaders who embody Archbishop Tutu’s values.

Later in the day, Queen Rania met with former First Lady of South Africa, widow of late South African President Nelson Mandela, and Co-Founder and Deputy Chair of The Elders, Mrs Graça Machel. The Elders was founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007 and consists of a group of global leaders working for peace, justice, human rights, and a sustainable planet.

Queen Rania also met Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, who had served alongside Her Majesty on the United Nations Foundation (UNF) Board of Trustees.
