Princess Dr Vesna, the wife of Prince Alexander, was safely delivered of a son, Marko Aleksandar, in Belgrade on the afternoon of 13 October. Both the mother & the baby are doing well.
The name that the parents have chosen is symbolic, as it honours both grandfathers of the youngest Karadjordjevic.
Honouring the Tradition & the Family Rules of the Royal House of Karadjordjevic, Crown Prince Alexander is announcing the birth & the title that he has given to his grandson:
« With great happiness and joy, my wife and I and the entire Royal family of Serbia are celebrating most joyous news, that my son, HRH Prince Alexander, and daughter-in-law, HRH Princess Vesna, became the parents of a beautiful baby boy, who we are wholeheartedly welcoming in our family — His Royal Highness Prince Marko Aleksandar, my dear grandson.
Each childbirth brings joy, but knowing that Karadjordjevics are again being born in our homeland, it is what brings special happiness to my heart. It is what I had dreamt of for so long; it is hard even to imagine it actually happening.
With sincere congratulations and wishes to the parents for good health and happiness, I am sharing my great joy of becoming a proud grandfather once again! »

Prince Alexander is the third and youngest child of Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia, formerly Yugoslavia, and his first wife, Princess Maria da Gloria of Orléans-Braganza. The marriage did not last, and the couple divorced in February 1985; the Crown Prince later married Katherine Clairy Batis.
The Crown Prince’s youngest son, Prince Alexander, married Dr Vesna Jelić in Villamanrique de la Condesa, near Seville, Spain, in September 2025. A civil wedding ceremony was later held at the Royal Palace in Belgrade on 6 September 2025, which the Palace notes is a very symbolic date that was specially selected, as on the day in 1923, the Prince’s grandfather, King Peter II, was born.
Earlier this week, Prince Alexander and Princess Dr Vesna welcomed their first child, a son named Marko Aleksandar. The name that the parents have chosen is symbolic, as it honours both grandfathers of the youngest Karađorđević. The parents warmly thank everyone for their congratulations, emphasising that they are truly blessed and happy on this joyous occasion, as they left the maternity ward and took their newborn home.
Crown Prince Alexander, as Head of the Karađorđević Dynasty, has announced the title that he has given to his grandson in an emotional message about his homeland —
“With great happiness and joy, my wife and I and the entire Royal family of Serbia are celebrating most joyous news, that my son, HRH Prince Alexander, and daughter-in-law, HRH Princess Vesna, became the parents of a beautiful baby boy, who we are wholeheartedly welcoming in our family — His Royal Highness Prince Marko Aleksandar, my dear grandson.

With sincere congratulations and wishes to the parents for good health and happiness, I am sharing my great joy of becoming a proud grandfather once again!”
The palace has said that as Prince Alexander and Princess Dr Vesna start “one of the most important chapters of their lives, with their newborn baby as one of the greatest gifts a person could ever receive,” Their Royal Highnesses will, in the future period, focus primarily on their family life and private obligations of raising a baby.
The Prince and Princess are very grateful to Doctors Natasa and Nenad Zlataric and the entire team of the Euromedik Hospital for their “commitment, great dedication, and care during the entire period of pregnancy and the childbirth itself.”
