The Swedish Royal Court has announced special royal celebrations for 2026.

King Carl XVI Gustaf will mark his 80th birthday on 30 April, and several events will take place to mark the special day.

A Te Deum will be held in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace before the traditional celebrations in the Outer Courtyard with the Swedish people. A large military guard of honour will be present for the event.

In the evening, a gala dinner will be held for guests. A guest list will be released at a later date, but foreign royals are expected.

Later in the year, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia will mark their Golden Wedding Anniversary. The couple will mark 50 years of marriage on 19 June, but due to the Midsommar holiday, the anniversary will be celebrated on 13 June.

As with the King’s birthday, a Te Deum will be held on 13 June. Their Majesties will also travel through Stockholm by carriage and royal barge to greet the people.

Further details will be announced in due course; however, the Royal Court has said an exhibition will be arranged at the Royal Palace.

New gala portraits of the King and Queen were also released with the details of the celebration.

King Carl Gustaf is in his admiral uniform with the Order of the Seraphim ribbon, badge of the Order of the Sword, and the kraschan of the Grand Cross of the Order of Vasa. He’s also wearing commemorative medals from Norway and Sweden.

Queen Silvia is in a deep green gown, the large Braganza Tiara, and the Order of the Seraphim sash.
