King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain have remembered the victims of the DANA storm that devastated Valencia last year.

The King and Queen were at the Prince Felipe Science Museum in Valencia for a tribute to the victims.

They were joined by government officials as they met representatives of victims’ families.

The ceremony began with the national anthem and the reading of the victims’ names. Families then shared personal stories that moved the audience.

Their Majesties then laid a wreath at the monument in memory of the victims in one of the most emotional moments of the ceremony. A moment of silence was then held.

King Felipe concluded the ceremony by saying, “The Queen and I want you to know: we are, now and always, with you. In the face of so much pain, we hope our words reach you like an embrace.”

Their Majesties received widespread praise for their response to the floods last year when they insisted on visiting their people. Upon arrival, they were pelted with mud, but unlike the government officials, they stayed and comforted the victims.
