Queen Mary of Denmark has attended the Nordic Rare Disease Summit.
During the summit, patient representatives, decision-makers and professionals from the Nordic region met to discuss rare diagnoses and disabilities. Queen Mary is the royal patron of the summit’s umbrella organisation Rare Diagnoses.
Queen Mary was welcomed by the representative of Rare Diagnoses, Liselotte Wesley Andersen, chairwoman of the Dwarfism Association, Karina Sofie Pedersen, Minister of the Interior and Health, Sophie Løhde, Dr Natasha Azzopardi-Muscat, Director of the Division of Country Health Policies and Systems, Europe, WHO, and Business and Membership Director of the Confederation of Danish Industry, Emil Fannikke Kiær.
Queen Mary met with several patient representatives who shared what living life with a rare diagnosis is like. She was also presented with a new study of patient empowerment. She then visited four stands which showed key aspects of life with a rare disease, such as access to specialised treatment and financial security.
