A special gift from Queen Margrethe

Queen Margrethe of Denmark has created a special gift for her son, King Frederik, and daughter-in-law, Queen Mary.

The Queen embroidered two new chair seats for King Frederik and Queen Mary’s chairs at Frederiksborg National Historical Museum in Hillerød.

According to the Royal House, “The embroidery is based on the crowned monograms of the Royal Couple: a blue mirror monogram, FF X, for the King and a red M for the Queen. The monograms are surrounded by various colourful, blossoming flowers on a dark blue background with small turquoise dots.”

Tulips and roses surround the monogram of the King, while white lily, red tulip, blue clematis, red rose, small bellis, blue iris, red tulip and red velvet flower surround the Queen’s.

Queen Margrethe, a well-known artist, embroidered her signature on the front edge of the embroidery, as “M-24.”

The King and Queen will use the chairs anytime they visit exhibitions or attend events at the museum. They will be part of the palace’s permanent exhibit in the future.

Queen Margrethe presented her gift to Frederik and Mary last week at a small event at Frederiksborg Palace.
