Ruler of Dubai’s brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, dies aged 76

The ruler of Dubai’s younger brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has died at the age of 76.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and ruler of Dubai, announced his brother’s death today.

He posted on X, “May God have mercy on Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum… May God have mercy on you, my brother… You have settled with a Generous and Great Lord… You are absent from our eyes but not from our prayers and hearts, O Ahmed. May God make you dwell in the vast expanses of His Paradise… and inspire us and your loved ones with patience and solace… And to God we belong, and to Him we shall return”

Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was born on 12 July 1950 as the fourth and youngest son of Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Latifa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan. He served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police & Public Security, Group Chairman of A.R.M. Holding and Dubai Real Estate Centre, and Chairman of Al Wasl FC. He was an avid equestrian.

The country has declared ten days of mourning.
