Princess Benedikte of Denmark welcomed Greenlandic children to Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen for a reception while they are studying in Denmark.

The Princess hosted school students from Tasiilaq in East Greenland and Gentofte Municipality at the palace. Children from Tasiilaq, Greenland, traditionally come to Gentofte, Denmark, in September for a week-long exchange programme.

The exchange programme was created while the Princess served as patron of the former Gentofte Greenland Committee.

Twenty Greenlandic children from Tasiilaq and 21 students from Gentofte Municipality attended the event on Wednesday morning. They were joined by the Mayor of Gentofte Municipality, Michael Fenger, who addressed the youth and royal at Christian VIII’s Palace.

Princess Benedikte, the aunt of the reigning King Frederik, was presented with a gift from the children of Tasiilaq and watched a musical performance by the students.

Benedikte also shared how important the children from both locations were to her. She also claimed that Denmark may have failed at teaching Danish students the history of Greenland (which is part of the Danish kingdom). Her speech was translated into Greenlandic for the students by an interpreter.

The Royal House later shared images from the reception on social media.
