New photos for Prince Gabriel’s 23rd birthday

Four new photos have been released to mark the 23rd birthday of Prince Gabriel of Belgium.

The images of the birthday prince were taken during a mountaineering course in the Mont Blanc massif in France over the summer.

One photo pays a special tribute to his ancestor, King Albert I. The Prince is seen in front of the ‘Refuge Albert Ier’, a mountain hut named after King Albert I.

King Albert was Gabriel’s great-great-grandfather, and he reigned over Belgium from 23 December 1909 to 17 February 1934. His reign included World War I, when the King led the final offensive that liberated Belgium from the Germans.

Prince Gabriel (b. 20 August 2003) is the second child and elder son of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians. He is second in line to the throne behind his older sister, Princess Elisabeth, the Duchess of Brabant. He has two younger siblings: Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eleonor.

He is currently in the Belgian military.
