The Royal Household Bureau has issued a new update on the health of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand.
The Princess remains in critical condition but her blood pressure has now stabilised and antihypertensive medications have been discontinued. However, her blood infection is severe and she is still receiving antibiotics. She is also on renal replacement therapy, and assisted respiration. She is being kept under close observation.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha has been in the hospital and on life support since December 2022, when she collapsed with a heart condition. The first update since 2023 informed the public earlier this month that the Princess was suffering from a severe blood infection. They announced that “the medical team has found that she has a severe infection that has entered the bloodstream, requiring the administration of multiple antibiotics in combination, as well as medication to stimulate blood pressure to maintain it. The medical team continues to provide full treatment and monitor her symptoms closely.”
The announcement on the Princess’s health leads to questions in Thailand, as she has been seen by many as the unnamed heir to the Thai throne. The King has yet to announce his successor, but rumours have persisted for years since his accession that he would name his eldest daughter as the heir.
