The Princess of Wales made a surprise visit to Dose of Nature last month, reflecting her longstanding interest in the role nature, relationships, and preventive approaches can play in supporting healthier, happier lives.

The Princess of Wales made an unannounced visit to Dose of Nature in southwest London last month. The pioneering mental health charity helps individuals improve their wellbeing through a unique combination of clinical psychology and connection with the natural world.

The charity uses nature as a tool for wellbeing, combining a psychology-led approach, one-to-one guidance from volunteer Nature Guides and nature immersion. The Princess’s visit to Kew reflects her longstanding interest in the connection between nature, creativity, relationships and human development, supporting healthier and happier lives.

At Pensford Field, Dose of Nature’s Richmond-based site, Catherine met with Founder Dr Alison Greenwood, Clinical Lead Dr Georgina Gould, and members of the charity’s team to learn more about the organisation’s innovative approach to mental health support. The Princess then met several people supported by the charity.

Founded in 2018, Dose of Nature works with NHS and GP referrals to support individuals experiencing a range of mental health challenges through its clinically led “Nature Prescription” programme, helping people reconnect with nature, improve their wellbeing and build lasting resilience.

The Princess of Wales concluded her visit at the charity’s weekly ‘Art in Nature’ session, where participants use the natural environment as inspiration for creativity, reflection and self-expression. At the session, the Princess spent time speaking with members of the group about their experiences and how engaging with nature and creativity has supported their wellbeing. Cathrine has increasingly highlighted the role that nature can play in helping individuals and communities flourish.

Dose of Nature demonstrates nature’s value as a powerful tool for supporting mental health. Last year alone, the charity delivered 547 Nature Prescriptions through its hubs in the Boroughs of Richmond and Guildford, supporting people experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges.
