Pomp and Pageantry: The British Royal Family welcomed the Sultan of Oman on his first state visit to the United Kingdom.

Britain was on show this morning as the Omani state visit to the United Kingdom officially kicked off. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq is paying a state visit within the “framework of reinforcing all that would elevate the facets of cooperation existing between the two countries across various domains, and the means of developing them in service of their mutual interests and aspirations in the present and the future,” per the Diwan of the Royal Court.

On Tuesday morning, Prince William travelled to the Sultan’s private residence to greet His Majesty on King Charles’s behalf. Among others, the Sultan was accompanied by Crown Prince Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham and Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs.

In Windsor, King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived on the Royal Dais along with the Princess of Wales before Prince William and the Sultan arrived.

The King and Queen formally welcomed the Sultan at the Royal Dais, on Datchet Road, as a Royal Salute was fired at the Home Park in Windsor and at the Tower of London.

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq then joined the King and Queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, in a carriage procession through Windsor town to Windsor Castle. Despite the drizzle, many people came out to see the carriages return to Windsor.

In the Quadrangle of the Castle, a Guard of Honour gave a Royal Salute as the regimental Band played the Omani and British National Anthems upon arrival. The Sultan, accompanied by the King, then inspected the Guard of Honour before rejoining the royal party to view the military rank and March past.

Together, they entered the Castle via the Sovereign’s Entrance. Following luncheon in the State Dining Room, joined by members of the British and Omani Royal Families, King Charles and Queen Camilla invited the Sultan to view a special exhibition of items relating to Oman from the Royal Collection in the Green Drawing Room.
