Today at noon, sailors from over 40 sailing clubs will honour King Harald.
The sailors will gather along the entire Norwegian coast, from the border with Sweden in the south, around the Oslofjord and Sørlandet, from Stavanger and north all the way to Tromsø, for a memorial sail in honour of the late King.
Sailors inland will also participate in lakes such as Mjøsa and Randsfjorden.
In Oslo, Norway’s two largest sailing associations, Oslo Sailing Association and the Royal Norwegian Sailing Association, are organising a memorial procession from Hukodden in Lysakerfjorden. This will be led by two boats of historical significance: King Harald’s own 8-mR Sira and the royal sloop Stjernen. The procession will last approximately two hours.
“It is powerful to see how all of Sailing Norway is rallying around this initiative. The fact that Sira and Stjernen are leading the procession in Oslo gives an extra dimension – it is the King’s own boats that are leading the way,” said Secretary General Per Christian Bordal of the Norwegian Sailing Association.
