Danish tributes to King Harald

King Frederik and Queen Mary have spoken to the press regarding the late King Harald of Norway.

At separate engagements, the King and Queen paid tribute to the late monarch.

King Frederik gave touching remarks about his “uncle” on 1 September.

“I remember him as a very endearing person. My uncle. He always carried himself with calmness and good humour, and to me, he was a warm and funny person who always had the right comment for the right occasion. He was very, very impressive.”

Queen Mary said, “King Harald was such a fine person. It was a pleasure to be in his company. I understand why he is called the grandfather of Norway. He had an eye for his fellow human beings. I experienced it myself. His care & thoughtfulness when I was new in my role as Crown Princess.”

The Queen made the remarks while attending the Danish Chamber of Commerce Anniversary on 2 September.

The tributes do not come as a surprise, as the Scandinavian royal families are very close. King Frederik and Queen Mary will attend King Harald’s funeral in Oslo on 9 September. It is expected that other members of the Danish Royal Family will also attend.
