Norwegian royals step out to place flowers in front of palace

The Norwegian royals stepped out to place flowers in front of the palace after the private memorial service in the palace chapel.

King Harald’s coffin was transferred from the Red Salon at the Royal Palace to the Palace Chapel, where it will remain until the day of the funeral.

The coffin was draped with the royal flag, and it was carried by the late King’s children and grandchildren, including Marius Bord Høiby.

It was carried in procession through the Yellow Salon, the Hall of Mirrors, the Daily Dining Room, the Little Banquet Hall and the Great Banquet Hall.

Queen Mette-Marit and Queen Sonja followed the coffin, and they were holding hands. The procession was led by the King’s Chief of Staff. He carried the royal crown on a cushion, and the head of the Royal Secretariat carried the royal sword. Other members of the court carried King Harald’s most important Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and British orders.

Employees of the court formed an honour guard in the halls of the Palace and joined the procession after it passed.

The chapel will be open to allow the public to pay their respects from today at 2:00 PM until the day before the funeral at 6:00 PM.
